Just as God sent Jeremiah to correct the priests and prophets, God sent the Righteous Branch for David, his son Jesus, to execute righteousness in the land. Jesus is the Good Shepherd who gives his life for the sheep, to turn the hearts of the people back to God, and to bring them back from the exile of God's wrath, home to their own fold. Jesus leads his followers into all truth, and clearly makes God's will for the people known. And when God raised Jesus from the dead on the third day, God made known the eternal destiny of Jesus' followers, the life of resurrection.
With Jesus as our prophet and shepherd, we cannot be scattered, and we will remain in the fold where we will be fruitful and multiply. With the Holy Spirit as our guide, we will remain open to correction, and remain in the basket of GOOD figs, allowing God to change us as he sees fit. And with the Father as our Father, we will be planted in a land we will inherit, a land without fear or dismay, or suffering or death.
Gracious God, help us to discern all prophecy through the lens of your son's life, death, and resurrection. Keep us in your grace, and keep our witness pure, in Jesus' name, amen.
